This Car was origionally purchased By my neighbor in 1975. After 15 years of begging he finally caved in and sold me the car.  As you can see from the first picture above it was in rough shape.  A complete overhaul of the Electrical had to be done.  Most of the lights had to be replaced.  The brake master cyl was toast as well as two of the wheel cyl's.  Living in East tennesse is rough on a small electric car and to help cope with that I replaced the origional 3-1/2 hp motor with a newer 12hp version.  This helped with all the hill climbing.  The origional contactor setup for speed control was not very efficient nor was is easy to maintain any speed since it was wide open or off.  I replaced the contactors with  a solid state speed controller. I drive this car to work 13 miles each way everyday. I am keeping up with the mileage and current price of gas to determine the savings. The local news channel done a story on this car and you can see it Here

Jim Purchased this car from ebay.  We travelled to PA to pick it up.  The Car was a 48V setup with contactor control for throttle.  This car is pretty heavy and soon became apparent that the 48V system would not be enough for the hills.  We upgraded the car to 96V, Modified the timming on the motor to accomidate the higher voltage, Added a Curtis 1221b motor controller.  The Rotating mass of the clutch and flyweel made shifting  slow as well as creating vibration.  We made an adapter and removed the clutch and flywheel.  The car is run mostly in 1st or 2nd gear. It will run 55 mph in second gear drawing less than 200amps. This car is a real gem to drive and well capable of keeping up with the traffic.

I purchased this truck a couple of months ago. The truck had a bad motor but a pretty good body for the age.  I thought this would make a good canidate for a conversion.   Click here for ongoing details of the conversion process.
