Leatherwood
Wood Shop
While attending the Mach3 convention in Knoxville TN, I spoke with a lot of people who were building CNC wood routers.  They showed me some of the things that they were making and I was impressed.  Then they told me about the router they were building.  Seems a large portion of these people were making cnc routers out of wood from free plans on the internet.  Well ok This sounds like a project I could do.  After a little surfing on the net I found a couple of sets of plans and settled on this design.  It is JGRO's plans ,  The origional plans called for the construction of MDF board, some black iron pipe and skate wheel bearings.  It was Pretty simple construction despite some errors on the plans.  I had to upgrade the pipe adjuster blocks to alluminum as the MDF was not up to this task.  I used simple allthread for the screws but found this to be less that desirable and since replaced them with some precision acme screws.  I have done several things with this but forgot to take pictures of most of it.  I started making Coasters and before long they were selling like hotcakes.  Here are some examples of the coasters.
I wish I had taken some pictures of the v-carvings that I did since they are awsome.  The software I use to create the coasters and such is Vcarve pro from Vectric software .  It is an outstanding program specificaly designed with cnc routers in mind.  I found out about this software when it was demonstrated at the mach3 seminar by Tony Mckenzie.

Stay Tuned I will try and post some more pictures soon.
